Kindness Is Infectious: The Little Compliments That Change a Day

My wish for you is to continue to be who you are, to astonish a mean world with your acts of kindness.
Maya Angelou

Kindness is infectious. One small word, one simple compliment, can shift the atmosphere of an ordinary day. It can bring the past flooding back in the sweetest way and leave everyone involved walking away a little lighter and a little brighter. Script 10 11 25

I like to think of these small moments as quiet revolutions, the kind that happen in supermarkets, on pavements, in passing conversations and in the spaces where our lives briefly overlap with someone else’s.

A Simple Walk, A Lasting Memory

Believe it or not, I am quite a reserved person. I am comfortable in my little quiet corner. But over time I have learned to lean into those moments when kindness invites me to step out and speak up, especially when someone compliments my hair colour, hair style, the ornaments in my hair, the pockets in my dress or my footwear.

It really is the little things, isn’t it?

One of those little moments happened just yesterday. I was walking behind a lady and her two young daughters. The girls must have been about seven and five years old.

They were absolutely enchanting. Their mum had dressed them alike in pink and white. Pink trainers, pink and white tights, outfits with pink, glitter and white lace, and matching jackets to complete the picture. They looked like they had stepped straight out of a storybook.

As I watched them, something inside me stirred.

My own daughters are all grown now and are in their twenties. How time flies. Seeing those little girls took me back to the days when my daughters were that age, when I used to dress them in coordinating outfits too. The memory wrapped itself around my heart and made me smile.

At first, I could have kept that feeling to myself and simply carried on walking. But I chose not to.

I turned around, introduced myself to their mum and told her how beautiful and well coordinated her daughters looked in their outfits.

The girls lit up instantly and giggled, delighted that someone had noticed them. Children remember moments like that. Being seen. Being valued.

I then added that they reminded me of my daughters when they were that age. Their mum was genuinely shocked to hear that my daughters are adults now and that I was reminiscing about their cuteness and daintiness from years gone by.

We stood there for a moment, three generations of experience wrapped up in a brief encounter on an ordinary day. I emphasised how important it is to compliment children, to help build their confidence and self-esteem while they are little, because those seeds of affirmation grow with them.

The girls thanked me so sweetly, well-mannered and full of joy. We shared a lovely laugh together and then I continued on my way, this time with a spring in my step and a warm, lasting memory of the moment we had shared.

Kindness really does make you the most beautiful person in the world, no matter what you look like.

Spreading Your Own Scent of Kindness

That encounter reminded me exactly what Memriz is all about. It is about seizing the moment. It is about allowing a kind word or gentle gesture to become a memory that lingers. It is about inspiring people to spread their unique scent of kindness, just like a flower that leaves fragrance wherever it has been.

You do not need a grand gesture. You only need a willing heart.

Kindness is infectious in the best possible way. When you compliment someone, when you notice them, when you pause long enough to speak life into their day, you are planting seeds that will grow into confidence, joy and connection.

Share Your Memriz Moment

What acts of kindness have you shared recently with someone who caught your eye?

Maybe you saw someone in a fetching outfit walking ahead of you, and you loved their style. Maybe you admired a stranger’s shoes, coat or bag. Maybe you caught a whiff of their perfume or aftershave and could not help asking where they got it from.

Those are all opportunities to create a Memriz moment.

👉 Share your encounters on our platform Memriz.online and in our Community of Kindness. Let us continue to encourage one another and remind the world that kindness is infectious and that it always matters.

Have a lovely week, and do not underestimate the power of a simple compliment. It might be the highlight of someone’s day.
