The other day at work, I was having lunch with a colleague. The table was covered with papers and folders as I prepared for a presentation about the inception of Memriz. When he asked what I was working on, I hesitated for a moment; believe it or not, I was momentarily lost for words.

Then it came to me. I leaned back, smiled, and said, “You’re my prototype, my training audience.” That was the perfect opportunity to introduce him to Memriz, or as I like to call it, to Memrize him.

He listened intently and gave such thoughtful feedback. Then he said something that completely surprised me, something that would make this moment unforgettable.

He shared that his mother’s name is Hyacinth, and she loves the purple hyacinth flower. I was amazed, because the purple hyacinth happens to be my favourite flower too. I told him how it only blooms once a season and how one single bloom can fill a room with its fragrance. That instant connection reminded me how kindness and shared stories can unite us in unexpected ways.

I also shared with him a story from a friend during my recent trip to Lusaka. She was at a supermarket, reaching for a basket when another lady reached for the same one. In that instant, she thought of Memriz and decided to let the lady have it.

Later, as she queued at the checkout, the same lady walked up with a huge smile and said, “Thank you for letting me have that basket. It was very kind of you.”

It was such a small act, yet it created a Memriz moment that brightened her entire day.
