One Moment, One Connection, One Memriz Moment: A Supermarket Encounter

Sometimes, life surprises you with little interactions that brighten your day and leave you with a story to tell. That’s exactly what happened to me recently during what was supposed to be a quick trip to the supermarket for some grapes. What unfolded instead was a memorable encounter—a Memriz moment—that left me both amused and reflective.

A Chilly Morning and a Bold Request

It was one of those crisp, chilly mornings—11 degrees, typical for this time of year. I parked my car and headed toward the supermarket entrance, my mind set on grabbing grapes for breakfast.

By the door, I noticed a woman in a hooded jacket. Nothing unusual for the weather, so I didn’t think much of it. But as I approached, she walked up to me with a question I wasn’t expecting.

“Do you have 50 pence in cash to spare?”

Caught slightly off guard, I politely waved her off. “No, I don’t,” I said, thinking that would be the end of it. But then she responded in a way that made me blink.

“If you don’t have 50 pence, could you get me a mango energy drink instead? It’s right next to [popular brand] in the chilled section.”

I paused for a second, surprised by her boldness, and said, “Okay.”

The Woman Who Knew Exactly What She Wanted

As I walked into the store and headed to the fruit section, I couldn’t help but smile. This woman had a kind of charm and confidence about her—completely unapologetic about her request and crystal clear on what she wanted.

I picked up my grapes and went to the chilled section to look for her mango energy drink. But after scanning the shelves, I couldn’t find it. That’s when I decided to head back outside and ask her to show me exactly where it was.

When I told her I couldn’t find it and invited her in, she didn’t hesitate. She marched into the store with me, went straight to the chilled section, and grabbed the drink she’d been talking about.

Feeling generous, I asked, “Do you need anything else? Maybe something to eat?”

“Oh yes,” she said without missing a beat. And before I knew it, she was leading the way again—quickly and confidently. She grabbed a carton of milk, mashed potatoes, and a cauliflower cheese-ready meal. It was clear she didn’t need to browse; she knew exactly where everything was.

I couldn’t help but laugh silently as I followed her. “Is this turning into a full shopping spree on my account?” I thought. But I was also impressed. There was something refreshing about her straightforwardness and her ability to navigate the store like a pro.

At the checkout, she began to open up about her life. She shared that she was often homeless and that getting food could be difficult. She even threw in a compliment about my hair, which made me smile.

As we walked out of the store, she turned to me and said, “Thank you so much. I hope you win a million in the lottery!”

That was it—I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. It was such an unexpected, heartfelt thing to say. I glanced back to see if she was still around, but she had already disappeared.

What Is a Memriz Moment?

This encounter left me thinking: It only takes one person, one moment, to make a difference in someone’s day—or even their life. It wasn’t just about the mango drink or the groceries. It was about connecting, sharing a laugh, and walking away with a story that made both of us feel a little lighter.

I didn’t give her a Memriz token, but we definitely shared a Memriz moment.
